Meet the author
Andrew J. Smith, Pharm.D., BCPS (AQ Cardiology), is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy (UMKC). He received his doctor of pharmacy degree from UMKC in 2000. He then completed post-graduate pharmacy practice residency training in primary care at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA in 2001. Dr. Smith is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist with added qualifications in cardiology. Prior to UMKC, Dr. Smith worked as a clinical pharmacist at the University of Kansas Hospital for seven years specializing in cardiology. Dr. Smith’s clinical practice site is with the cardiology service at Truman Medical Center at Hospital Hill in Kansas City, MO where he rounds with the inpatient cardiology consult service. He provides didactic lecture on both the pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of heart failure, coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease. His current projects include identifying barriers to cardiac rehabilitation participation and using automated stratification tools to identify patients with heart failure at high risk for readmission.
This module will provide 2.5 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit for pharmacy technicians.
